Kumki-Onnum Puriyala Song lyrics and English Translation

Movie: Kumki
Music composer: D.Imman
Singer: D.Imman
Lyricist: Yugabharathi
Starring: Vikram Prabhu, Lakshmi Menon

Situation behind this song is as follows, hero has come to the village on some compulsion of his personal situation. He comes riding his elephant. Heroine has fear for elephants since she came under attack by an elephant in the past and escaped fortunately. When she turned around in the street, hero sees her and immediately feels butterfly in his stomach and in the next second heroine sees the elephant, got shocked and fell down into the pond on her back. Seeing this, hero also jumps into the pond in an effort to save her. She herself got out of the water before hero reaches her. Among all this, it doesn't even seem that she has seen the hero. Hero has been longing to see her again and tries many ways to see her such as by visiting her house, etc. The next time he sees her is when she returns back after fetching water. She got separated from her friends while admiring a flower and stayed behind. When she was walking alone while admiring the flower in her hand, she casually turns a corner and ends up standing in the front of same big elephant again. This is the second time hero sees her and again when she is frightened. The song begins, it is composed as hero singing his never-felt-before feelings for this girl whose name he doesn't even know. He expresses her beauty and what that beauty does to him.

Onnum puriyala,

Solla teriyala,
Kannu Muzhiyula,
Kanda azhagula,
Aasai kooduthe...

Uchan thalaiyile,
Ulla narambula,
Pathu viralula,
Thotta nodiyula,
Soodu yeruthe....

Nethi pottu terikuthu,
Vittu vittu rekkai mulaikuthu,
Nenju kuzhi adaikuthu Maane,

Manam thathi thaaviye thari kettu oduthu,
Uyir unna serave oru thittam poduthu hey hey yehey....

(Onnum puriyala....)

Alaiyura peiya avaladhu paarvai
Ennai thaakuthu, vanthu ennai thaakuthu,
Paravura noya avaladhu vaasam
Ennai vaatuthu, ninnu ennai vaatuthu,
Avaladhu thirumeni veri kootuthu,
Avalidam adi vaanga vazhi kaatuthu,
Ava enna pesuva? athai enna thonuthu,
Ava enga thoonguva? athai kannu theduthu..Hey hey, yehh elale..

Kadhir aruvaala manasaiyum keeri,
Thundu podura, ennai thundu podura,
Kalavara oora ava uru maari,
Kundu podura, chella kundu podura,
Vizhiyula pala nooru padam kaatura,
Arubathu nilavaaga oli kootura,
Ava kitta vanthathum thalai suthi aaduthu,
Ava etti ponathum ada buthi maaruthu hey hey yeh elale....

(Onnum puriyala)

English Translation: (Pardon if there is any mistake, I welcome the correction and feedback)

Onnum puriyala,
(I can't understand what is happening in me)
Solla teriyala,
(I don't know how to express this feeling)
Kannu Muzhiyula,

Kanda azhagula,
Aasai kooduthe...
(My desire is increasing after seeing the beauty in her eyes)

Uchan thalaiyile,

Ulla narambula,
Pathu viralula,
Thotta nodiyula,
Soodu yeruthe....
(The heat has been increasing in the nerves of the top of my head since the moment she touched there through her ten fingers)

Nethi pottu terikuthu,
(My forehead wisdom point is exploding)
Vittu vittu rekkai mulaikuthu,
(I grow wings on and off)
Nenju kuzhi adaikuthu Maane,
(My heart feels heavy dear (Maane literally means deer in Tamil, often used to refer female partner by male to show love))

Manam thathi thaaviye thari kettu oduthu,
(My heart is uncontrollably galloping)
Uyir unna serave oru thittam poduthu hey hey yehey....
(My soul is planning to join you)
(Onnum puriyala....)

Alaiyura peiya avaladhu paarvai

Ennai thaakuthu, vanthu ennai thaakuthu,
(Her wandering eyes attack me like a ghost)
Paravura noya avaladhu vaasam
Ennai vaatuthu, ninnu ennai vaatuthu,
(Her fragrance spreads in me like a contagious disease and bothers me so much by staying here)
Avaladhu thirumeni veri kootuthu,
(Her figure/body makes me mad)
Avalidam adi vaanga vazhi kaatuthu,
(These desires will lead me to get beaten up by her)
Ava enna pesuva? athai enna thonuthu,
(I often think what she will speak, (probably the hero thinks what she will speak when they both get a chance to speak alone)
Ava enga thoonguva? athai kannu theduthu..Hey hey, yehh elale..
(My eyes search the place where she sleeps)

Kadhir aruvala manasaiyum keeri,

Thundu podura, ennai thundu podura,
(She slices my heart into pieces like an harvesting knife)
Kalavara oora ava uru maari,
Kundu podura, chella kundu podura,
(She becomes like a riot place and blasts me through her beauty)
Vizhiyula pala nooru padam kaatura,
(She shows me hundreds of pictures in her eyes)
Arubathu nilavaaga oli kootura,
(She lights up sixty times of moon)
Ava kitta vanthathum thalai suthi aaduthu,
(My head spins when she comes near me)
Ava etti ponathum ada buthi maaruthu hey hey yeh elale....
(My thoughts are messed up when she walks away from me)

(Onnum puriyala)
